Te Koki New Zealand School of Music hosts a concert featuring the Auckland-based piano quartet Estrella: Cindy Tsao, Judy Lee, Lorelle McNaughton and Somi Kim.

Estrella was formed in 2010, when the members were all piano performance students at the University of Auckland. The initial impetus for the formation of the ensemble was to play the works of British composer Graham Fitkin, which they performed and recorded for Radio NZ Concert. Since that time, they have given concerts throughout New Zealand, and had many works written especially for them and recently recorded and released on their first CD. In 2011 they were winners of the ROSL Pettman Scholarship, resulting in a highly successful concert tour of UK, where they performed in the Edinburgh Fringe and Dartingon Festivals, and gave concerts in many other UK venues including St Martin in the Fields and St James’ Piccadilly in London.

In this concert Estrella will perform works written by New Zealand composers:

Tui (2010) and Ghost Dance (2011) by David Hamilton
efflux by Eve de Castro-Robinson
A Tedious Brief Scene: Bottoms’ Dance by Leonie Holmes
2 pieces by Sarah Ballard
Bintang and Into the chasm by Gareth Farr

Te Koki, New Zealand School of Music is a joint enterprise of Massey University and Victoria University of Wellington.
