One of the most celebrated Americana performers of her day, singer/songwriter Iris DeMent was born on January 5, 1961, in rural Paragould, Arkansas, the youngest of 14 children. She grew up singing gospel music, however she was first exposed to country, folk, and R&B in her teens, drawing influence from Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and Joni Mitchell.

DeMent first began composing songs at the age of 25 and her 1992 debut album Infamous Angel won universal acclaim thanks to her pure, evocative vocal style and spare, heartfelt song craft.
Some albums later and after a hiatus from performing in the late 90’s, Iris returned and released Lifeline in 2005 and more recently in 2012 Sing the Delta.

This latest work finds her singing again with the sparse and emotional quilt of her earlier releases. Live in concert and at a wonderful venue like Old St Pauls, Iris DeMent will take your breath away.
