Guinness has been hunting the nation for bartenders who live and breathe the two-part pour, surge and friendly service that make drinking a pint of the dark stuff such an exquisite experience – and regional finalists have just been announced!

With four semi-finals being held around the country in November, competitors from the upper North Island, lower North Island, upper South Island and lower South Island can compete to earn a place in the national final.

The upper North Island will be represented by:
The Quadrant, Victoria Street, Hamilton
Hennessy’s Irish Bar, Hinemoa Street, Rotorua
Claddagh Irish Pub, Newmarket, Auckland
Bank Bar, Kaikohe, Northland

During October, punters across the country rated bartenders on the Guinness experience they were provided, taking into consideration the pour, presentation and friendliness of the service. The teams that ranked most highly will now compete at their region’s semi-final, being held in Auckland on November 21.

Contenders will have to expertly pour a pint of Guinness: they’ll be scored on the quality of the pour, as well as on the experience they give the crowd (a quirky personality and touch of humour never goes astray!). Teams will also have to present a Guinness-based creation for the judges to taste – last year’s competitors put forward everything from cocktails, to desserts and Guinness pot pies!

The Guinness Pint Master regional finals are free for the public to attend, and with a bit of good old Irish luck, people in the crowd may be treated to a perfectly poured pint, straight from the competitors’ taps!

The winners of each regional final will compete for the Guinness Pint Master title at the national final, being held in Auckland on December 5th.
