  • General admission: $3.50

Orienteering Bay of Plenty (OBOP) and the Rotorua branch of 350.org are delighted to bring you this fun event/rogaine to raise awareness of climate change and the actions each of us can take to reduce the impacts of climate change on our communities.

What: 2-hr rogaine plus fun activities for the whole family.
Course outline: Checkpoints throughout Rotorua CBD, recognizing where actions on sustainability are and ought to be.

Many organisations around the world have set a goal to keep atmospheric CO2 below 450 parts per million (ppm), to minimise the risk of global temperatures rising more than 2degC above pre-industrial levels. Many scientists believe this is too high: we want you to join us to help reduce the target from 450 to 350 ppm.

The map which will be provided identifies checkpoints around the CBD area. You will have up to 2 hours to visit as many points as possible. At each checkpoint you will be required to find the answer to a question. Each correct answer will earn you points - which are deducted from your initial total of 450, leading you towards the target of 350.

Rotorua Arts Village will also be the focus for displays/info related to climate change and actions eg hand-crank generator demonstration with regular/CFL bulbs, electric bicycle, solar ovens, Walking School bus, sustainable backyards etc. Also band, children's activities, face painting (green)...etc!

Register at participating CBD control points (McLeouds booksellers) or online at the website.

Come join the fun, enjoy a healthy day out for all, get a goodie bag, and appreciate the good things this area is doing for our community and the environment, while playing our part to maintain a green globe!
