Once again Petone Baptist Church invites you to discover the real meaning behind this festive season with their village of Bethlehem Christmas experience. Step back in time and take part in a famous journey following the footsteps of Mary and Joseph to the place of the first Christmas.

From early December the church building will be magnificently decorated with nativity reliefs and lights. From 13-15 December the church auditorium will be transformed into the village of Bethlehem, complete with a bakery, spa, Hebrew school, leather stamping, singing angels, and of course live animals. Experience the hardships, the questioning, the joy and the beauty. And true to the story of the first Christmas, there will be Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, the shepherds and the wise men.

Children and families will be able to visit the animals (a donkey, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, and rabbits) and experience a village as it may have been at the time of Jesus’ birth. Families will have the opportunity to have their photos taken in shepherd and angel dress up costumes (provided) in the stable scene with real characters.

Visitors can grab a free coffee and sample some Eastern delights as part of their journey.

During the journey through ancient Israel visitors can have a go at various craft activities, hear stories, and experience what life might have been like “on the road”. This journey is one which changed the world forever. Far away from Santa and crowded shopping malls this is an event no one should miss!
