A weekend of activities is planned to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Castlepoint Lighthouse, commencing with a Lighthouse to Lighthouse cavalcade of up to 50 horse riders leaving Cape Palliser on Wednesday 13th and trekking up the coast, arriving at Castlepoint on Saturday 16th.

A light display will feature on the lighthouse on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, with the lighthouse being open for tours on Saturday 16th noon to 5pm and Sunday 10 am to 5pm. There will be a powhiri at the commencement of the reunion of Former Lighthouse Keepers on Saturday morning. A celebration will be held in the Castlepoint Station woolshed starting at 7pm on Saturday night (tickets are $15 single/$25 double - with supper and cash bar). There will be entertainment by Pat McKenna, guest speakers and displays of historic photographs and memorabilia. In attendance will be Marcus Lush, TV presenter of North and South, Grant Hinchcliff, Castlepoint's last Lighthouse Keeper and Bill Kemp the Lighthouse Inspector of that era.

The main events will take place at the Family Day on Sunday 17th. Between 9:30-11:30am, visitors will have the opportunity to drive to Castlepoint from the South, through the iconic Castlepoint Station by car ($10 donation per car requested) or tour buses ($25 through Tranzit). At Castlepoint, there will be live music featuring Skaper and Mr Groove, sheep shearing, working sheep dog demonstrations and helicopter rides ($40). The Department of Conservation will host guided walks around the newly upgraded Deliverance Cove Walking track in the Castlepoint Scenic Reserve at 11am both days. Food and drink will be available for purchase.

For children, on Sunday afternoon, there will be sand castle and kite flying competitions, as well as a 'Big Dig'. Prior to the event there are lighthouse art competitions for different age groups, with presentations on the day. Ali Foster will launch her children’s book “A Beam of Bright Light” which is all about how the Castlepoint Lighthouse was built in 1913.

The day will conclude with a muster of sheep along the beach, with Castlepoint shepherds on horseback with their working dogs.
