Company Theatre presents the heartwarming true story of the brave women of a Yorkshire Womens Institute who raised 3 million pounds for leukemia and lymphoma research by producing a nude calendar. The play will make you laugh and cry, and you may well leave the theatre with the strains of 'Jerusalem' ringing in your ears.
The initiative to produce the calendar arose when the husband of one of the women was dying and the local hospital needed a new settee for the relatives' room; no one could have anticipated the media interest round the world once the press learned of the amazing courage of these middle-aged women to bare all for the cause.
Company Theatre joins with other New Zealand drama groups in an attempt to beat the world record for the number of productions of a play being staged in an 18 month period. No two productions will be the same, as actors make the characters their own. Company Theatre is raising funds for North Shore Hospice and presents the play from 6-27 April on Auckland's North Shore.
