The band was formed in 1989 to perform mainly Latin acoustic music in the style of The Gypsy Kings. The inclusion of a jazz fiddle extended the repertoire to include Manouche (French Gypsy) jazz elements heavily influenced by the famous Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grapelli combo. VoxNova performs for all types of private, corporate and public events – notably twice at the recent Taste of Auckland Festival. Over the years there have been many long term bar residencies, such is the appeal of this refreshing and universally liked style of music.

Alan MacDonald, Cajon percussion, band founder
Alan has a background in graphics design, tertiary student mentoring and is a recent art school graduate. The cajon (Spanish for box) hails from Peru and occupies a space between drum kit and percussion.

Jez Titterton: manouche guitarist
With the band since 2001, Jez is a full time musician who has toured extensively, especially in France, where he developed a passion for manouche music. He is the band’s oracle of manouche.

Etienne Bizjak: jazz violin
Etienne qualified in engineering and music in his native Belgium, he recently arrived in New Zealand to travel and perform manouche music. His energetic and authentic gypsy jazz style is admired by audience and musicians alike.

Dave Peachey: manouche guitarist
Dave also a qualified engineer, has performed here and overseas in the jazz scene. More recently has he fallen under the manouche spell.
