88 Years of Bell Labs - Creating Innovation, Adapting to Challenges and Changing the World

Since its founding in 1925, Bell Labs researchers are credited with the development of radio astronomy, the transistor, the laser, the charge-coupled device (CCD), information theory, the UNIX operating system, the C programming language, the S programming language and the C++ programming language. Seven Nobel Prizes have been awarded for work completed at Bell Laboratories. This talk, in conjunction with the official launch of University of Waikato's Cyber Security master degree and Cyber Security Lab, will give an overview of Bell Labs and provide insights into the Bell Labs innovation culture. Network technology trends will also discussed.

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Veena Mendiratta is the Practice Lead for Network Reliability and Analytics in Bell Labs CTO's Office. She began her career at AT&T Bell Labs over 25 years ago. Her work has focused on the reliability and performance analysis for telecommunications systems products, networks, and services to guide system architecture solutions, and on telecom data analytics. Dr. Mendiratta is a senior member of IEEE; a member of INFORMS; a member of the Alcatel-Lucent Technical Academy; a recipient of the Bell Labs President's Award; and represents Alcatel-Lucent at the ETSI NFV Industry Standards Group. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the MS in Analytics program at Northwestern University and member of the Industry Advisory Board of University of Waikato's Cyber Security Lab.
