Sport psychology applies a scientific approach to people in sport and exercise contexts. This includes studying how psychological factors affect you or your team’s performance in sport and how participation in exercise and sport affects us. This course applies scientifically based thinking to strategies that can help coaches and athletes.

This course is for coaches and athletes (both amateur and professional).

By the end of this course, students will:
- understand the foundations and key principles of sport psychology
- understand cognitive–behavioural principles and how they apply to the athlete
- recognise individual factors such as motivation, stress, anxiety and reinforcement
- understand group processes and the ‘systemic perspective’ and how this can help individuals and teams
- know how to apply ‘psychological skills training’ to improve performance.
