“In a joint venture with our co-sponsors, the Confucius Institute at Victoria University of Wellington and Te Kökï the New Zealand School of Music, we offer the opportunity to hear a wonderful ‘Fantasy’ programme, with works by CPE Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, and including Schubert’s famous “Wanderer” Fantasy.

The gifted Chinese-American pianist Jian Liu, Lecturer in Piano Studies at Te Kōkī, New Zealand School of Music in Wellington, will perform this solo concert. This concert follows an extensive tour in May for Chamber Music New Zealand’s regional societies, which was very well-reviewed.

Jian Liu was accepted at the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing at the age of 12 and moved to the United States when he was 15. Since then, Jian has been successful in a number of competitions, performed widely around the world, and amongst other qualifications has completed Master of Music and Master of Musical Arts degrees at the Yale School of Music. He is currently finishing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Yale School of Music.

Note: The artists and programme advertised earlier have been changed due to the unavailability of pianist Xiang Zou.”

Programme:
CPE Bach – Fantasia in C
Beethoven – Fantasia, Opus 77
Liszt – Après une lecture de Dante: Fantasia Quasi Sonata
Mozart – Fantasia in D minor, K397
Schubert – Fantasie in C, Opus 15 (Wanderer Fantasy)
