Come celebrate with us. Everyone welcome!

Wellington World Refugee day will include two invitational soccer matches, cultural food stalls, cultural music and performances.

The invitational soccer match will be played between refugee communities, city councillors and other well known local figures.

The day will offer traditional food and cultural performances from countries such as Burma, Somalia, Columbia and Assyria. Other entertainment activities including Push Play Trailers, a soccer cage, face painting and informational stalls will be present on the day.

Refugee Services acts as he lead agency in resettling refugees in New Zealand under the government quota system. Refugee Services Wellington has organised and will host this event.

New Zealand accepts 750 quota refugees every yearly, these refugees settle in Wellington, the Hutt Valley, Porirua and Nelson. World Refugee day allows countries all around the world to collectively honour and raise awareness for the world’s more than 16 million refugees.

Schedule:

11:00am - Kick-off football match
12:00pm - Final football match
12:00pm - Delicious traditional food for sale
1:00pm - Football awards ceremony
1.30pm - Cultural music and performances
