Twilight ‘Bike the Southern Loop’ Series
Every Tuesday from 15 May – mid August 2012
Two starts: 5:30 and 7:00pm from a CBD location
A 1 hour off-road loop using the Taylor River Bed and Lower Wither Hills
With daylight saving hours over the Twilight ‘Bike the Southern Loop’ series has been created to meet the demand for people wanting to maintain their riding and fitness with a regular weekly ride on a set route, predominantly off-road, with little or no vehicular traffic and close to town so people can ride from home and share the camaraderie and safety of being with other riders.
The start/finish venue will be CBD-Maxwell Rd-Munro Street-Taylor River Reserve-Junior Mtb track to main Mtb park-lower single track to link to Stock Route-Rifle Range track-Redwood Street-Finish. The loop is about 1 hour. There are several ‘early exit’ routes off the Rifle Range track (Weld, Scott or Redwood Streets) that are more direct back to Fairweathers on Scott where your ride tag can be redeemed for a post ride drink.
Note: All areas and tracks in the Wither Hills Farm Park other than those identified in the loop are not to be ridden 1hr after sunset or before sunrise other than for the specific dates and times of the Twilight Series. The Marlborough District Council has granted permission for these tracks to be used for the series as a one-off event.
Registration up until 5:15pm on the day at AvantiPlus Blenheim, 61 Queen Street.
All riders must return to the finish so that we know that you have safely returned. Permitted minimum age 16 years.
Lights (handle bar and/or on the helmet) and a red rear light is compulsory as are a helmet. Rear red reflectors are legally required too.
It is recommended that the following be carried – spare tube, pump, small spare head torch, mobile phone, lightweight jacket and beanie. Wear appropriate clothing for conditions on the evening. If you stop you can cool down very quickly.
All road rules apply and must be observed and obeyed. Please be mindful of vehicular traffic when using bright lights. Well behaved cycling behaviour, courtesy and good riding etiquette at all times please to ensure that cycling is positively portrayed. The route is to be cycled with care and at a speed where all riders have the ability to stop for and be courteous to other riders and walkers on all tracks.
If track conditions are really wet an alternative route may be used or the ride cancelled for the evening. Notification will be put on the radio and available from AvantiPlus.
Acceptance of entry to any of the rides is entirely at your own risk, and neither the organisers, sponsors nor the landowner(s) will be held responsible or liable for any accident or injury, which may occur. A liability/waiver form for the series will need to be completed before people enter their first ride.
