Join economist and philanthropist Dr Gareth Morgan for the final lecture in the Transit of Venus lecture series. In association with the Royal Society of New Zealand and Radio New Zealand.

Our Land, Our Environment, and Our Economy – Transiting to Where?

The age of economic prosperity has delivered, but New Zealanders’ expectations of material wealth continue to rise. Can we change our ways, or must we first despoil our environment before we learn to alter our priorities?

Dr Gareth Morgan
Dr Gareth Morgan is an economist, public policy analyst, portfolio investor, and motorcycle adventurer. He is also an active philanthropist and a UNICEF ambassador.

Dr Morgan has instigated a series of books on issues of public interest – Poles Apart, an appraisal of the science of climate change; Health Cheque, a review of New Zealand’s public health system; The Big Kahuna, an investigation into tax, welfare, and the contribution unpaid work makes to New Zealand society; and Hook, Line and Blinkers, an assessment of the world’s fish stocks and the management of New Zealand fisheries.

His latest project, Our Far South, aims to raise New Zealanders’ awareness of the importance of the area between Stewart Island and the South Pole.

Note: Dr Morgan replaces Sir Ray Avery, who was originally scheduled to speak.

This event is now fully booked.
