Connected to human emotions, energy and physicality, Touch Compass’s 15th Anniversary Season Run, Slip, Spring celebrates the creative talents of a diverse group of artists, who challenge traditional perceptions of who can dance and what is dance. This trilogy of works from New Zealand’s only integrated dance company seeks to create a new form of dance that transforms conventional dance practice.
Run by international choreographer Marc Brew is a hard-edged work evoking desperation and escape that presents the idea of moving forward in our lives from the habits and histories that hold us back and restrict our growth.
Spring, by Creative New Zealand Choreographic Fellowship recipient Catherine Chappell, is a pioneering dance piece that combines aerial bungee and contact improvisation. Highly visual with elements of spectacle it explores gravity and energetic connection, as the dancers play with the movement created by the loft of the bungee.
Carol Brown’s piece Slip premiered at the Auckland Town Hall in August 2010 and toured to Wellington and Hastings in June 2011, and also received the NZ Listener 2010 'Touchstone Award' which described the work as "remarkable". This will be Slip’s third season and a rare opportunity to evolve this highly popular work that exposes intimacy and support and the personal stories of the dancers.
