Want to take part in an art project? Do you have an hour or so to spare? Do you like the idea of hanging out with working artists, chatting and making? Then visit the Open Studios Project 2013 and meet with 8 local and international artists in our wonderful creative space that is the Rotorua Arts Village.

As a shared creative space, the Arts Village can sometimes be challenging for lone artists to access for individual projects. The Open Studios Project is in part about redressing this, by providing access to our purpose built makers' spaces to artists over the summer.

The artists have come up with a variety of projects that are designed to actively engage with audiences. So you can come in, chat and make alongside the artists, a really nice way to spend a few lazy hours in summer.

This year we have artists:

Anna Borrie: An environmental artist, who is facilitating the making of tourism trinkets with a difference. They will be fashioned from recycled plastics collected from the local refuse.

Anne Bosomworth: A painter and printmaker telling her life story in colours and images. Make a card alongside Anne that you can take away with you.

Luanne Lawton: Will be opening the Potters Studio and teaching interested people how to make a range of items.

Sen McGlinn: From NZ via the Netherlands, Sen will be creating a performance space, a place for reading poetry, playing music and creating an ambience.

Sonja Van Kerkoff: Will be working with families to make decorative elements for their retirement home spaces.

Fabiola Barba: From Mexico, Fabiola is a photographer, who will be exploring the idea of creativity in work - especially that of women. Have your photo taken, tell your story.

Christine Le Roux: Christine makes hats. A French national based in NZ, Christine learnt to weave with flax locally, and now is bringing a European flavour to her weaving. Talk about hats, design a hat.

Shari Cole: Quilt maker. Shari is a Pacific Quilting expert, and will be teaching quilting techniques and patterning.

There's a range of experiences for everyone, and they will be either free or very low cost to take part. Bring yourselves in for an inspiring experience with art while in Rotorua.
