The Nukes

The Nukes are New Zealand’s premier original ukulele group. In 2011 they featured as part of the major TV doco ‘Bill Sevesi’s Dream’ and released their debut studio album ‘Each to their own’ through Ode records.

This West Auckland trio of ukulele wielding songwriters have toured the country from Russell to Bluff and played some of NZ’s best known festivals. So far in 2012 they have performed at Taupo’s Erupt Arts festival, WOMAD, the Hibiscus Ukulele convention in Orewa, Rotorua’s Hot Lakes Ukulele Festival, and even managed a jaunt over to Australia for the Melbourne Ukulele Festival.

Audiences often comment on their brilliant songs which cover subjects as diverse as the secret life of worms to love and death in the wild west of Auckland.

They love to play intimate venues where audiences can enjoy the subtleties of their songs and humour. Audiences can also expect to be dazzled by the sounds the humble ukulele is capable of producing and seduced by their wonderful 3 part vocal harmony - in other words in a Nukes concert expect the unexpected!

Here’s what a few NZ music luminaries have said about them:

"High entertainment with three very different songwriters meshing together with humour, pathos and kiwiana." - Karyn Hay

"The Nukes are a unique, dynamic and inspiring three piece ukulele band that delights diverse audiences of all ages. They are outstanding musicians, great singers and precise harmonisers who add a comedic edge to their shows – the Nukes experience is uplifting, fun and feel-good." - Amanda Wright, Artistic Director: Taupo’s Erupt Festival

"There was overwhelming positive audience feedback from the (Spiegeltent) concert and was one of the reasons I brought them back for WOMAD 2012." - Drew James Artistic Director WOMAD / Taranaki Arts Festival
