Take a break from your Christmas shopping to join the The Linden Singers in a programme of traditional carols and with guest organist Douglas Mews. Find out why holly, ivy and crackers are traditionally used at Christmas time.

Holly and other evergreen shrubs like ivy were originally used by Christians in Roman times as Christmas decorations. They have now become an integral part of the Christmas ritual and so seemed to the choir an apt name for this year's concerts.

John Rutter, the choir’s favourite composer is represented in the programme with his lively carol Jesus Child and the tranquil Mary’s Lullaby. Other favourites included in the programme are Good King Wenceslas, We Three Kings featuring the men’s voices and Silent Night. In keeping with tradition, as always the audience will be invited to join with the choir in singing several well-known Christmas hymns.

Douglas Mews, the Wellington City Organist will play three chorale preludes on Allein Gott (Glory to God in the Highest) by J S Bach Noël on the Flute Stops and Noël Suisse by D’Aquin.
