Two day scenic rail excursion over the spectacular Napier to Gisborne Railway travelling on a heritage excursion train hauled by a restored diesel locomotive. One of the top rail journeys in NZ. Napier to Gisborne Sunday. Overnights at Gisborne. Accommodation your responsibility. Back to Napier on Monday.

This is a rare chance to admire the stunning scenery and coastal vistas of the Esk Valley, Blacks Beach, Waikokopu, & Opoutama. Many tunnels and viaducts too, including the Mohaka, and Matahorua viaducts.

NB: Due to recent major washouts to the track around the Beach Loop area this excursion will now operate as far as Opoutama/Kopuawhara (base of Mahia Peninsula) by rail on the Sunday which is three quarters of the way from Napier to Gisborne. A road coach will connect to Gisborne. On Monday a road coach will connect from Gisborne to the train at Wairoa.

Included on the train is a buffet counter and open air viewing platform.

Several stops will be made each day for photo opportunities and a leg stretch. This includes a short beach stop at Opotauma.

All seating is reserved. You will be assigned a different seat on the return journey which will be on the opposite side of the carriage to that on the journey to Gisborne. This is to allow all passengers a window view of the coastal panoramas.
