Tuesday (at 8 30pm sharp!) The Spoilers of Utopia will do a set that will include some new repertoire-- Hooray!

The line up will be: John Bell: tenor horn, vibes, Kingsley Meluish: trumpet, trombone, Finn Scholes: trumpet, flugelhorn, Ben Zilber: trombone, Owen Melhuish: tuba, Darren Hannah: double bass, Neil Watson: guitar and Chris O'Connor: drums.

The Spoilers will be preceded by Jonny Marks (solo voice, and things) Jonny's remarkable CV follows:

Jonny Marks (solo voice and things)
Jonny Marks cut his teeth in the early days of The Space, a Wellington venue run by Jeff Henderson. Of our fellow compatriots Jonny has had the pleasure of making pleasurable noises with some of the finest; John T Bell, J J Henderson, Daniel G Angus Beban, AlphaBetHead, and the legendary Anthony Donaldson; to name, but a few.

After several years of exploratory vocal contortions on these shores, Jonny travelled to Inner Mongolia to receive training for a year. And then on to Europe.

He has been based in Birmingham for the last 3 years. In the UK he found many collaborators. Some of the people he enjoyed playing with regularly had stamina and style. They included: Marks Sanders, Paul Dunmall, Miles Levin, and Steve Beresford. One of his highlight gigs was in a disused, flooded, basement toilet in Coventry; the whitewashed walls were peeling and ruined a perfectly fine pair of trousers, but the music was good.

He has moved back to Wellington and plans to stay in New Zealand for the next wee while.

Noel Clayton (guitar)
Noel is a Wellington guitar legend. He has performed with many bands in the last two decades, including his own fine trio (‘Eel’) with Patrick Bleakley and Chris O’Connor. Noel influenced a generation of guitar players through his astonishing performances at the Lido cafe during a long-time residency with the ‘Doodletown Boptet’. Noel has also been a frequent collaborator with Anthony Donaldson (in the ‘Razorblades’, also touring with the ‘Village of the Idiots’) as well as with Patrick Bleakley and Jonathan Crayford, and John Bell in ‘Sanctus’, performing around NZ and at the Melbourne and Wellington International Jazz Festivals.
