Travel with Gisborne City Vintage Rail behind our Wa 165 steam locomotive built in 1897.

A 3.5 - 4 hour return journey, which departs Gisborne Railway Station and heads out over Gisborne Airport runway, the railway then follows the curve of Poverty Bay, over the Waipaoa river bridge and across the flats to Muriwai. Hear the steam locomotive working hard as we wind our way up the Wharerata ranges surrounded in native bush, crossing bridges and through the 1.4km Waikoura tunnel before emerging at Beach Loop 500ft above sea level showcasing spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean. A 1 hour stop here for a picnic lunch before heading back to Gisborne.

- BYO picnic lunch;
- A free tea and coffee service is provided at the picnic area;
- A small refreshment service is available (drinks confectionary etc).
