Every woman deserves to live a life free from unnecessary fear and worry. And that's what Protect's Safe For Life course, which caters exclusively to the self-protection requirements of women, can give you.

Live a life of freedom without the threat of physical or sexual abuse and scare tactics - Safe For Life is a totally new approach to self-protection for women which focuses on empowerment and enablement rather than fear.

The focus of the course is on protecting yourself and your loved ones against the possibility of violence in the most effective and realistic way possible. This comprehensive and unique course includes training in the behavioural and psychological aspects of violence, to give you the real advantage over potential attackers but also to allow you to live life without un-warranted fear or worry.

Safe For Life has been designed exclusively by a woman, self-defence expert Athena Thompson; author of the influential book 'Every Womens Guide to Being Safe... For life'. As a past survivor of serious assault herself, Athena understands perfectly the emotional and physical realities of violence against women and has helped to empower thousands of women through this program.

Some of the value you will receive at this course includes:

- Cutting through all of the hype and misconceptions around self defence for women, defining it in true and real terms so that it can be applied immediately to keep yourself safer;
- Understanding the four stages of real self protection. This information (unique to Protect in NZ) is vital if you are serious about keeping yourself safe in your day to day lives;
- Paranoia vs awareness: Understanding how to use awareness to your advantage without the usual anxiety and paranoia associated with this skill;
- The behavioural and psychological manipulations strategies which men use against women in the pre-contact stages of dangerous situations. Knowing these ahead of time is very powerful. This is vital information!
- Understanding fear: Its value, how it works to protect us, as well as the physiological responses it causes and how to use them to your advantage;
- Dispelling the common myths: Women's self defence is littered with myths and misconceptions which will be dispelled and replaced with real, valuable information;
- The basic "golden rules" of self defence: These are not the same old ineffective ideas that we have all heard. These are updated and effective concepts designed from working with thousands of women, survivors of rape and sexual assault, and much research;
- De-escalation: Verbal defusion and conflict resolution skills which work under pressure to defuse situations wherever possible;
- Physical protection: Pprotection strategies which work against a larger, stronger attacker, in any situation, under stress and pressure;
- Post event issues;
- Open forum question and answer time with NZ's leading experts on self protection;
- And a lot more! (seriously, this course is packed with great info from start to finish);
- (Oh, and it is actually very interesting, safe, and fun to learn too!).

Safe For Life is a real-life programme open to women of all ages (15+), sizes and levels of physical ability (no physical fitness required).

We look forward to seeing you at the course!

Course facilitators: Athena and Phil Thompson.
