Hands-on Pukeiti session for kids of all ages.

Families who attend a free fun day at Pukeiti on Sunday (5 August) are set to gain more than happy memories.

Not only will youngsters get their hands dirty at the Explorer Club fun day, but they’ll create their own little native garden to take home with them.

Activities will begin with a plant hunt in the Pukeiti rainforest, with plants brought back to start a new life in the gardens.

Participants need to bring something to convert into a small garden – an ice cream container, for example, or an old fishbowl or an odd boot. Also bring gumboots, warm clothing and snacks or lunch.

The event runs from 10.30am until 2pm – be there at the start to take part in the plant hunt.

Sunday’s fun day is part of a year-round calendar of free events Pukeiti, Tupare and Hollard Gardens, the heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. All three properties are open daily and entry is free.

For more information, see www.pukeiti.org.nz, www.tupare.info and www.hollardgardens.info. Social media users can also follow the three Regional Gardens on Facebook (TaranakiRegionalGardens) and Twitter (@TaranakiRG).
