An intimate concert of Italian baroque music played on original instruments by Affetto.

Jayne Tankersley - soprano
Peter Reid - cornetto muto
Polly Sussex - gamba, treble viol
John Gluyas - sackbutt
Simon Snape - lute
Rachael Griffiths-Hughes.

The word ‘affetto’ means mood, emotion or affect, and is both the name of the ensemble and the primary objective of the players: they intend to lead the audience on an exploration of Italian early baroque music, an era that is indeed their 'first love'.

Affetto won Best Musical Production Award in the 2011 Fringe Auckland Art Festival.

The performers in Affetto are all early music specialists and are leaders in their respective fields, have trained in London, Boston, Melbourne, Basel, The Hague, all play authentic instruments & all are passionate about early music.

Jayne Tankersley possesses a magical clear soprano voice and entrances with her charm and stage charisma. She studied and freelanced in USA.

Simon Snape plays the gentle lute with a rhythmic verve that drives the ensemble.

Peter Reid brings the ancient Cornetto to life with its sweet and haunting sound, in this concert featuring the cornetto muto, a straight variety of the cornetto that is the equivalent of the oboe d'amore to the oboe, or flugel to the trumpet.

Polly Sussex plays the beautiful viola da gamba as well as the treble viol.

Rachael Griffiths-Hughes will play the harpsichord, a small but very resonant Italian harpsichord loaned to us by Roy Tankersley and pimped by Paul Downie. In the Ponsonby concert Rachael will also utilise the remarkable pipe organ.

John Gluyas plays the sackbutt with astonishing facility and control of tone.
