Poetry, the queen of literature, highly thought of and so flexible. Discover treasure, express yourself with originality, write for fun, as gifts for others or publication. Poetry helps us problem-solve with more insight, relaxes the mind and we may create writing of astonishing beauty. You will find out how to get rid of “writer’s block” and write at least one poem on the first night. In three weeks we cover free verse, acrostic, mirror poems, sonnets, effective rhyme and more.

Put aside two to six hours per week, to do some writing or search out poems you love, between sessions. You may choose to share your progress with other participants by email between sessions.

Perhaps you'll find the desire, after completing this course, to join one of many poetry groups who meet regularly around Auckland. Great social occasions with a literary focus. Your tutor can give some pointers for those evenings, too.

Tutor, Raewyn Alexander has had six poetry collections published, was invited to read poetry overseas four times and soon tours America. She is also a novelist, short story and non-fiction writer who at times edits and publishes work by others. Max 10.

3 x 2 hour sessions, starting Tue 29 May.
