Poetry In Motion

Wellington’s newest monthly poetry series Poetry in Motion will be launching featuring Apirana Taylor. Heaven Pizza boasts an impressive range of wood-fired pizza, a full bar and a cozy courtyard with arguably the longest log table in Wellington. Come one and all! Suggested koha of $3 – 5.

Apirana Taylor from the Ngati Porou, Te Whanau a Apanui, and Ngati Ruanui tribes, and also Pakeha heritage, is a poet, playwright, novelist, short story writer, story teller, actor, painter, and musician.

Many of his poems and short stories are frequently studied in schools at NCEA and tertiary level and his poetry and prose has been translated into several languages.

He has been Writer in Residence at Massey and Canterbury Universities, Rangi Ruru, St Andrews College and Hagley High School. He has been invited several times to India and Europe and travels to schools, tertiary institutions and prisons throughout NZ to read his poetry and take creative writing workshops.

Poetry in Motion is an inclusive event which aims to raise the profile of poetry and spoken word as a fun, engaging art form and challenge people’s notions of what poetry is. This is a forum for sharing ideas, laughter, tears and views on life with a community of people who love words and performance in a lively bar atmosphere.
