Physical Theatre Workshop (Palmerston North) with Gene Alexander.

In this workshop you will:
- Learn Jacques Lecoq’s techniques for movement-based theatre;
- Encounter the physical meaning of “the body in space”;
- Learn 5 of Lecoq’s 20 Movements;
- Create a short piece using mime for theatre techniques (pushing, pulling, articulation and fixed point exercises);
- Study the mimodynamics of the element;
- Go from observation to transposition for the theatre;
- Develop physical theatre improvisation tools;
- Play physical theatre games;
- Learn movement based character development;
- Learn how to use movement analysis and Play for devising original theatre work.

The Physical Theatre Workshop is ideal for actors looking to get out of their heads and develop a physical immediacy necessary for the stage; dancers in search of theatricality; circus performers looking to externalize their performance and connect with the audience; storytellers wanting to find a physical poetic expression and deepen their poetic sensibility. This workshop will be beneficial for all arts practitioners from all disciplines on all levels.

Gene Alexander is a performer, physical theatre devisor, acting teacher and director. A graduate and company member of American Academy of Dramatic Arts (NY), he has performed at the Fortune Theatre, Circa, and Downstage and has recently returned from his studies in Florence, Italy where he has been studying physical theatre, mask play and clown with Giovanni Fusetti at Helikos International School for Theatre Creation.
