A story of two boys who go off to the World War I, and their parents who are left behind. Tom and Percy are sons of a Matangi farming couple, Eve and Alec Shand. Down in Central Otago learning about sheep-farming, they are caught up in the thrill of going to war with their mates. Percy’s girlfriend, Emily, is a nurse and she is going abroad, so it just seems so easy to follow everyone else. Eve and Alec are left behind to worry about their two boys.

The play is one of youthful enthusiasm and energy brought sharply into focus with the wisdom and maturity of an older generation.
