Cantala will join Hutt Valley Orchestra in a concert before Cantala's European tour. This award-winning Wellington East Girls' College choir will perform at St Paul's Cathedral in London and Notre Dame in Paris. They will then compete at the International Youth Music Festival in Vienna in July.
Conductor Brent John Stewart, who leads both the orchestra and Cantala, explains "The concert will include choral favourites such as “Ave Maria” (Franz Biebl), “Herbstlied” and “Maiglockchen und die blumelein” (Mendelssohn), “Rolling in the Deep” (Adele) and orchestra works "Finlandia" by Sibelius as well as Rossini's suite "La boutique fantasque". With such a wide variety of music, there is something for everyone."
Cantala were successful in the 2011 Big Sing competition; one of eighteen choirs selected to compete out of the three hundred which entered, they won several regional awards before receiving a Bronze award at the finals. Brent says, “I am very proud of the girls, who always rise to the challenges I set them - even when this means many practices a week, often before school starts.”
