Te Koki, New Zealand School of Music, presents a concert which supports the notion of a 'global village'!

Donald Armstrong, Associate Concertmaster of the NZSO, who studied in America before retrning to New Zealand, will be joined by two Kiwis who have made their names as teachers and performers in the USA, alongside one Israeli-born American and one Russian, both now living in New Zealand.

Martin Riseley worked for many years in America and Canada before returning to Wellington where he is now Head of Strings and Associate Director of NZSM. Timothy Deighton is a fellow Kiwi who is a Professor at Penn State University, USA. Inbal Megiddo, while Israeli-born, spent many years teaching and performing based at Yale University, and Russian-born Irina Andreeva is a Doctoral viola student at the NZSM. Now both are here in New Zealand: Inbal as NZSM's Lecturer in Cello, and Irina is working on her thesis on virtuosity and the viola.

The ensemble will perform two favourite works from the String Quintet repertoire: Mozart's String Quintet in g minor, K516; and fittingly, the 'American' String Quintet by Antonin Dvorak. Each is a masterwork, the Mozart justly famous, but the Dvorak often over-shadowed by its twin, the ‘American’ quartet; like the quartet however, it takes a sophisticated and heartfelt approach to its source material, folk music that the composer experienced in the USA.

Seating in the Hunter Council Chamber is limited.
Online booking: Adults $20; Seniors/Students $10; NZSM (Staff & Students) Free
At the door: Adults $25; Seniors/Students $10; NZSM (Staff & Students) Free
