Peter H. Bloom (flute) is one half of the US-based duo '2' along with Mary Jane Rupert (piano). '2' are currently on a concert tour through New Zealand and Australia and they will perform at NZSM tomorrow night (Wednesday 22 March).

The students taking part in the masterclass are studying at NZSM, but members of the public are welcome to come as observers. There is no admission fee.

Peter H. Bloom, whose playing has been called "a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength" (The Boston Globe), tours internationally and appears on more than 30 CDs from labels including Sony Classical, Dorian, Newport Classic, Leo Records and others. Winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award, he concertises with leading classical ensembles and is also a noted jazz artist, celebrating his 35th season as flautist/saxophonist with the internationally renowned Aardvark Jazz Orchestra. Bostonia Magazine praised his versatility (“bringing just the right touch to everything from Chopin to Satie”), while Jazz Improv hailed his "exquisite melody."

Mr. Bloom serves as historical woodwind consultant for the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; provides musical direction for museum exhibitions in the US and abroad; and has lectured widely. A board member of the James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition, he received a Master of Music with Distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music, and holds a BA in Philosophy from Boston University.

This masterclass will be held in Room MS209, NZSM Kelburn Campus.
