The North East Valley Community Development Project invite you to meet neighbours, learn new skills, prepare a meal together and have fun interacting with each other while learning about the significance of Puaka Matariki to Aotearoa, Ōtepoti and North East Valley.
The afternoon will begin with a traditional hāngī being laid in the Community Garden and you are welcome to take part in this process.
The Community Garden Group welcomes everyone to take part in planting new items in the garden and learn new skills in order that new members will be able to support the continuance of this community initiative. Other community groups and residents will gather to entertain all ages from the community with various activities.
In the evening, everyone is welcome to gather in the Community Garden to watch the hāngī being lifted. At this time a pōwhiri will take place to welcome the community together.
After kai, a guest speaker will tell the story of Matariki, its path and relevance, and the community will be entertained by the Community Choir.
Detailed information, including where meal tickets for the hāngī can be collected from, will be in the June and July editions of the Valley Voice or you can call the Valley Voice Office on: (03) 473 8614.
