The free music event, organised and provided by Waiariki Institute of Technology, will wrap up the week-long orientation, "O Week", for the institute's students who start the semester on Monday the 20th. The event is open to the community as well as Waiariki students.

This year Waiariki will welcome more than 5000 domestic and international students to campuses throughout the region.

Platinum-selling Midnight Youth recently toured New Zealand to promote their second album, World Comes Calling. Their debut album, The Brave Don't Run, went platinum and peaked at number two on the New Zealand album chart in 2009.

Also in Friday's line-up are emerging kiwi rock group Villainy. Fresh off the back of supporting Incubus at their Auckland and Wellington gigs, Villainy is working on their first album under the guidance of producer Tom Larkin (Shihad).

Opening the event will be student girl group Vocalese and the platinum band from Waiariki Academy of Singing and Music.

Waiariki and the students' association WITSA have created an exciting programme on campus and in town for the institute's best ever O Week, aimed at supporting the students.

More details about O Week can be found on the Waiariki website.
