Kiwis have the chance to see the story of a Kiwi girl who learns the true value of a gift at Christmas brought to life in a special one-night only performance at St Matthew-in-the-City.

Starring luminaries of stage and screen Annie Whittle (Go Girls and Shortland Street), George Henare (acclaimed New Zealand actor), Harry McNaughton (Shortland Street), Sarah Graham (The Twits), Andrew Laing (Underbelly), Rachel Nash (Ingrid from the Almighty Johnsons), Laura Hill (star of the stage and formerly ‘Toni’ of Shortland Street) and special guest cameos!

Based on ChildFund children’s book Mary’s Christmas Yarn written by 10 well-known Kiwis including Danielle Cormack, Hilary Barry and Jeremy Corbett, the story has been transformed into a play by six schoolgirls from Bohally Intermediate in Blenheim.

The Bohally girls won ChildFund’s Pens Against Poverty, a nationwide scriptwriting challenge amongst schools. They won over the expert judging panel of actors and writers Alison Quigan, Mark Hadlow, John Callen, Michael Galvin and Rachel Lang with their with their funny and creative interpretation of the book.

ChildFund Ambassador Alison Quigan, best known for her role on Shortland Street and also a seasoned theatre director, will be directing well-known Kiwi faces on stage in the beautiful St Matthew-in-the-City in central Auckland which has generously volunteered its venue.

ChildFund CEO Paul Brown says the play is the result of a unique collaboration between storytellers, schools, scriptwriters and actors.

A limited number of tickets are on sale, with proceeds going to ChildFund.
