Margaret Mahy - A Magical, Wacky, Whimsical World.

It would be difficult to find a children’s bedroom in New Zealand that didn’t have at least one Margaret Mahy book on the shelf. One of the country’s most prolific and influential writers, Mahy has penned more than 120 books, with her work including poetry, picture books, junior fiction and teenage novels.

In 2006 Mahy was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest international honour given to a writer of children’s books. Her recently released The Margaret Mahy Treasury brings together 11 of her classic stories. Mahy discusses her writing and reads from her enthralling childhood favourites filled with wonder, whimsy and magic.

Age recommendation: 6-12.

With support from the Lion Foundation.
