Marae Idol celebrates the past, present and future by bringing rangatahi and kaumātua together and using performance as a medium of expression to celebrate the strengths of our community.
Now in its 10th year, Marae Idol is a standout event of the Puaka Matariki Festival and it continues to grow from strength to strength. Unity and sharing has become a keystone kaupapa of the night and everyone is welcome to come and share their talents, or just enjoy other peoples!
The night is modeled on American Idol and although not the focus, there are prizes to be won. There are special guests both from mana whenua as well as locals who have contributed significantly to the community over time. The night ends with a hākari (feast).
