May 25th saw the release of Luckless’s startling debut album, and the duo, comprising of singer/guitarist Ivy Rossiter and drummer Will Wood, will be performing their unique blend of melancholia, riffs and grooves throughout the country during the month of June. They will be accompanied by experimental folk act Bond Street Bridge throughout the tour.
Luckless draws on influences as diverse as their own sound, from the literary works of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Haruki Murakami, to the music of PJ Harvey and Sparklehorse. They blend these together as a riveting and dynamic duo, stripping the luscious sound of their Roundhead Studio-borne record back to its raw roots for their live shows. Described by reviewer Gary Steele as “as widescreen as an old Panavision movie”, Luckless performs substantial, meaningful music, wrapped around with an instrumental mantle that is at times comforting and warming, yet when unleashed quickly becomes aggressive and fierce.
After spending two weeks of 2011 on the road with Bond Street Bridge, Luckless’s singer Ivy Rossiter was mysteriously amalgamated into the Bond Street Bridge ranks, and so as fate and mutual wishes would have it, the two bands happily are joining forces again on this tour.
For Bond Street Bridge, this will mark the first showcase of their Explorers Cycle - a series of songs thematically devoted to the efforts, and at times failures, of historical adventurers such as Shackleton, Scott, and Sir Francis Drake. This first outing of the Explorers Cycle will mark the year of the Centennial of Captain Scott’s ill-fated Terra Nova Expedition to the South Pole.
