Johannes Blomqvist and guests.
Sunday 26th February, 10am – 10pm

Auckland Old Folks Association artist in residence Johannes Blomqvist presents 12 hours of diverse live art alongside special guests from Auckland's performance communities. Moments of love, scones and slippery memories will be shared from 10am to 10pm, so come along at any time during the day to observe or join in this one-off, one of a kind performance feast.

Johannes Blomqvist, a performance and live artist from the north of Sweden, is the first international artist in residence of the Auckland Old Folks Association Live Arts Initiatives. Johannes has participated at many festivals, galleries and other events in many countries and is the founder and leader of the platform for performance art called PAIN (Performance Art in Norrbotten).

As an artist who mainly works in collaboration with others from different fields, Johannes is using his residency as an opportunity to engage with the various performance communities that practice in the Old Folks Hall on Gundry St. This has involved learning how to break-dance, talking about love, flooding the hall and participating in “dance orgies of butter, jam and scones.” Johannes says he has been inspired and revitalised by these collaborations and the wider Auckland art life, which he says he will miss greatly when he leaves.

Live In The Old Folks Ass. will operate as a durational participatory performance where members of the public can come and go as they please. People are welcome to actively join in or simply observe and sample the Swedish food specially prepared for the event. The performance will activate a meeting between Sweden, New Zealand, Johannes, the local artists and the surrounding communities, exposing the histories and current daily practices that give life to the hall. Local artists include Sean Curham, Suzanne Cowan, Christina Houghton, Sarah Gavina Campus, Matt Gibbons, Elspeth Fougere and Deimos Thompson-Rikys.

Johannes is also performing in the New Performance Festival with Mark Harvey in I Am A Wee Bit Stumped at the Aotea Centre, 18th Feb, 9pm.
