Bonjour mes amis – welcome once again to a little taste of something different this comedy festival. Le Comique est un nuit like no other – a little risqué, a little naughty with a touch of je nais se quoi this NZ International Comedy Festival.

Returning to host this peitite soiree is France’s best export since Zinadine Zidane and Gerard Depardieu, Monsieur Marcel Lucont. A continual hit with Nouvelle Zelande audiences from his last appearances at the festival, Lucont is a self-published, self-award-winning author of several books and as incroyablement suave as you’d expect a Frenchman to be. He’s also equally as arrogant. C’est la vie!

Lucont hosts alongside Kiwi femme-fatale, Madame Justine Smith, winner of the 2003 Billy T award and a previous nominee for the Fred award. More recently, Mademoiselle Smith has earned funding for her 2012 show, The Pitch with Irene Pink, as part of the all new Creative Comedy Initiative.

They are joined on this soiree de plaisirs (evening of pleasures, for those who ne parle pas francais) by American musician Wilson Dixon, performing for once night only some of his classics from his best-selling albums – too many of which to mention. The UK’s eccentric comedy troupe Idiots of Ants bite their tongues to join a classy French production as opposed to their stiff upper lip events you know them to well for. Oh mon dieu…

Grand guignol-esque magician Jarred Fell also returns to Le Comique, as the baroque styling (we think) of Barry Morgan and His Organ and Australian Ed Carruthers almost round out the line up. It is however a great privilege, des amis spéciaux (special friends) to announce a one-off Festival special…

Monsieur Boy With Tape On His Face (Sam Wills) performs alongside Morgan Williams in the cult classic Spitroast. Sure to be a raisons de se réjouir this event.

Le Comique c’est chic!
