Lake House Arts Centre is the destination to visit over three days in April with “Art in Action” daily from 10am-4pm. The grounds, studios and artists in residence will be involved in the first ever Lake House Arts Festival, focusing on workshops, demonstrations, talks and activities by established artists in a variety of art mediums for the absolute novice to the highly skilled artist.

One of Lake House artists elaborates, “It doesn’t matter if you are a well-established artist or not, you can always learn from your peers, just by observing or taking part in Master classes and workshops, I find them really worthwhile to my own arts practice”. Carving live in the grounds are veteran electric chainsaw carvers Picton’s Pita-Rua-Lagan and Palmerston North’s Errol Churton. Full day workshops in Oamaru Stone carving and beginner’s wood carving will be taught by sculptor Anna Korver. Denice Symons will be conducting painting and mixed media tutorials from within her Lake House studio over the three days as will other in-house artists. The weekend will also have a dedicated number of applied artists working in some of the heritage art forms such as felting, spinning and weaving, mosaic methods and Japanese Raku firing and throwing on a potters wheel. Co-partners who will be involved in delivering arts workshops will be the Studio Printmakers, the Auckland Quilters Guild, Spinners and Weavers and the New Zealand Body Art Trust.

There will be three days of live performance including the Youth Maypole Dance group, White Wall dance, the Bellydance School from Silverdale, David Kelly, Acoustic Duo, Classical Indian Dance, Harp and Soul and some local youth bands.

Encourage your friends and family to come and enjoy the beautiful gardens and Historic house, bring a picnic or enjoy the delicious light meals on offer from the Café, this will be a fantastic event not to be missed.
