Fo Guang Shan

A touring exhibition of Chinese Zen painting and calligraphy.

"I call my paintings Zen (Chan in Chinese) paintings because my works are based on the philosophy of Zen Buddhism. Zen is a way of meditation and contemplation which purifies the mind and with true wisdom we can attain spiritual enlightenment.

"As an artist, after studying Zen Buddhism for a number of years, I created my own style of Zen paintings based on this concept. I also use painting as a vehicle to express my inner experience of Zen and life. Zen is the original state of mind attained by spiritual awakening; it is empty, pure and still.

"This is the state of mind that I would like to express in my works. Empty space plays an important role in my works. It is 'invisible painting' that you can't see but you can hear and feel." Kim Hoa Tram

Kim Hoa Tram whose name in Chinese is Shen Jinhe was born in Vietnam. His parents were originally from China. Since 1990, Kim has held group and solo exhibitions around the world such as China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, USA, Canada and Australia.
