Thursday evening: silver jewellery, beginners and advanced 6-8pm (10 weeks)

Tutor: Annie Collins
The next class will start 17 May, 2012

Beginners: produce a sterling silver ring set with the stone of your choice! You will learn soldering, filing, sanding, texturing, hammering and stone setting techniques as well as proper tool use and care, health and safety and basic design principles.

We begin by learning how to work with copper and brass and you will make a practice ring in these metals before moving on to silver. Our gem dealer will visit us on the third class so you can purchase you stone/s directly from him with prices starting at .30 cents!

Learning delicate soldering is part of the fun!

Advanced: create a silver pendant on a handmade chain and develop your own projects. This course is for those with some experience in metalwork who are relatively confident with soldering. You will learn chainmaking as well as cold connections (riveting etc.). You will be encouraged to challenge yourself in both design and practical work and shown how to experiment with new techniques.

We also offer a special casual drop in class on Monday morning and Thursday morning (10am-1pm) for advanced students. This is an opportunity for those with reasonable experience to work on independent projects with help and support.
