The New Zealand Accordion Association has staged the New Zealand Accordion Championships and Festival since 1972. In addition to the comprehensive list of competitive classes, we also encourage Festival participants, both from New Zealand and internationally, in solo, group, ensemble and orchestra formats. We welcome warm, enthusiastic and appreciative audiences who enjoy all types of music.
The Raye Freedman Centre is an outstanding venue that is ideally suited for an international competition, with excellent acoustics and all its state of the art facilities under one roof. The weekend commences on Saturday morning with a President's welcome, in particular to life members, overseas guests and competitors. On Sunday afternoon, there will be a concert featuring the festival orchestra, class winners and other guest artists.
This year, the festival orchestra will be for those players 18 years and under from all over New Zealand and overseas guests. On Sunday evening, there will be a formal dinner during which we will present trophies to the South Pacific Championship winners. This evening features a wealth of accordion entertainment and dancing, to cap off what is always a most exciting weekend.
Come along and enjoy a weekend of fun, friendship and of course, great music.
