Child psychologist Dr Louise Porter is coming to Christchurch to transform educators' and parents' behaviour from controlling discipline with the use of rewards and punishment to the guidance approach, with the use of acknowledgments.

Dr Louise Porter is not in praise of praise!

She says, "when you want children to develop a healthy self-esteem, celebrate and acknowledge their efforts, but do not praise them!". "Praise approves of work that meets adults standards!"

With praise you want to manipulate children into doing things your way or into being a particular kind of person.

Acknowledging children’s achievements or their considerate behaviour asks you not to patronise children but to treat them with the same humanity that you would use towards a person of any age.

Children are people too!
