The Greek Community & Orthodox Parish of Auckland proudly presents its annual Hellenic Festival & Market Day.

Join us to celebrate and enjoy Greek food, music, dance, history and culture and an understanding of our Orthodox traditions:
- home-made delicacies, cakes and pastries baked by the ladies of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, along with Greek coffee;
- imported and locally-made Greek foodstuffs such as olives, olive oil, taramosalata, tzatziki and many other popular products;
- enjoy live Greek music to the Sounds of Greece and displays of popular and traditional Greek dances;
- brief guided tours of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity by our parish priest, Fr Paul Patitsas, explaining the significance of various icons, internal church ornamentation and the history of Orthodoxy;
- learn about some aspects of Greek history; and
- learn about the Greek language classes that are available to adults and children.

The day’s programme is structured in such a way as to enable visitors to spend a whole day of food, fun, music, dancing, history and Greek culture, or, if time is more limited, to attend certain parts of the day’s programme.

One thing, however, that you need to be aware of: the home delicacies prepared by the ladies of the Greek community get snapped up very quickly, irrespective of how much they make. Your chances of getting some home-baked goodies are higher earlier in the day, rather than later!

Programme
Greek ladies home baking sale & Greek coffee: 10am-3pm;
Sale of Greek imported & locally-made foodstuffs: 10am-3pm;
Church Tours (around 20 minutes): 10am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 3pm;
Live Greek music and dancing (30 minutes): 10:30am, 12:30pm, 2:30pm;
Greek history (30 minutes) - “Magna Graecia” and its achievements (a session about the life and achievements of the Greek colonies of Western Europe, presented personally by noted Auckland Greek personality and enthusiastic historian, Nikos Petousis): 12pm;
- "Journey to Ancient Ionia" (A presentation on a recent journey to ancient Ionia by Auckland’s Nikos Petousis): 2pm.

We look forward to welcoming you and enjoying your company.
