Grandiose Burlesque is set to be Nelson's sauciest annual event. At The Playhouse, Mapua on June 2nd.
And a Grandiose weekend of burlesque wouldn't be complete without workshops from our very special guests from around NZ.
- Beginner fan workshop with Ruby Ruin
Covering the basics of dancing with fans, and includes a take-home routine.
Bring your own fans if you have them, small number of fans will be available for use.
Cost: $30 per person
Time 1pm - 2.30pm
- The Art of Sarcasm with MisRed
The traditional meaning of burlesque was focused around a literary, dramatic or musical work intended to cause laughter by caricaturing the manner or spirit of serious works, or by ludicrous treatment of their subjects.
The Art of Sarcasm is a workshop designed to help you push yourself to meet the this definition of burlesque and add caricature to your routines, confidence and conviction whether it be through facial expression, body language, use of props, or twisting an idea to sarcastic greatness. Not just for the performer!
Cost : $30 per person
Time 3pm - 5pm.
Both workshops will be held at The Pole Artistry Studiow hich is located Shop 1, Rutherford Mews. It's a little hard to find but it's behind My Pie up the drive between Advanti Cycles and Golden Bell on Hardy Street. I will pop a sign up on Hardy Street saying "Burlesque class this way".
