Canterbury Steam Preservation Society are holding a “Glory days of steam” weekend at our site at McLeans Island, 7km from Christchurch airport.

The big event of the weekend will be the opening of our latest project, 4 years of work to make a steam driven saw mill. The saw mill is typical of 100s of mills that once dotted our country. We will have the world's largest Burrell traction engine driving the sawmill.

We are expecting 10 traction engines and one steam roller on site. Some will be towing large trailers of logs for the mill. Others will be pulling threshing mills for removing grain from crops or chaff cutters for cutting horse feed and their living huts. Some of the road trains will be 20 meters long.

On Saturday and Sunday there will be sawmilling, sheep shearing, steam fire engine, stone crushing, chaff cutting, threshing, oats rolled, pile driving, road making, steam train rides, pony brake (for horse power testing) and our steam museum will be open and running around 10 steam engines. Heavy horse (Clydesales) will be at the show as well.

Steam or horse power only.
