If you’ve seen that us Aucklanders have managed to score Greg Behrendt (USA), the man co-behind He’s Just Not That Into You and a Sex and the City and thought “typical bloody JAFAs” – don’t fret. And be nice to us now…

First Laughs, the opening gambit for what will be the start of Wellington’s NZ International Comedy Festival season is hosted this year by Behrendt, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge including why men are dicks and women can do so much better than who they’re with at the moment; so much better.

But hold the phone – Rhys Darby (NZ) is on his way to The Opera House also! A true New Zealand superstar now after the success of Flight of the Conchords, Darby has gone on to share the screen with Jim Carrey (yes the Jim Carrey) in Yes Man and with Oscar winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman (no, not Dustin’s child) in The Boat That Rocked.

They are both joined by local boys done good, Ben Hurley (NZ) and Steve Wrigley (NZ) – familiar faces to those who watch 7Days, but perhaps for the older comedy fan two faces who plied their comedic craft in Wellington’s comedy circuit before both earning Billy T awards each.

If those blockbuster performance during First Laughs weren’t enough (and really? That’s not enough for you?), then the international contingent making their way down to the capital will surely win you over! Stephen K Amos (UK), Janey Godley (SCO), Marcel Lucont (FRA), Chris Cox (UK), Gordon Southern (UK), Andrew O’Neil (UK), Urzila Carlson (SA/NZ) and Craig Campbell (CAN).

…and this is just the first announcement! There’s still more to come!

Get your tickets now as this event will sell out, and we’ve been nice enough right here to give you fair warming.

An absolutely positively good start to comedy in the capital!
