Tauranga will lead the Earth Hour 2012 celebrations this year, as New Zealand is the first country to mark the global 'lights out to save the planet' movement.

The family-friendly festivities include:

- A night market including Little Big Markets, some stalls from the Tauranga Farmer’s Market and environmental organisations sharing information on the work and programmes they run. The market will run from 5.00 – 8.30pm. Some food stalls will be available or bring a picnic.

- A candlelit acoustic concert featuring a great range of local performers, including Luke Thompson, Matt Bodman, Nine Mile Stone, Marcel Currin and more. Music will run from 5.00 – 9.30pm.

Earth Hour itself is 8.30 – 9.30pm at which point lights will go out to show our support and you can enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of music, lanterns and candles under the stars.

- Look out for the community pledge installation too. Here you can pledge an action for the benefit of the environment and in return for each pledge Bayfair are funding a dune plant and organising a community dune planting day.
