Be the first to walk the new “Denniston Literature Trail" at Denniston (West Coast) and join the launch of a self-guided tour following the steps of New Zealand's most popular novels.

People now will be able to visit key sites featured in best selling novel "Denniston Rose" and "Heart of Coal" thanks to a new self-guided trail developed by locals and the author Jenny Pattrick.

Jenny Pattrick's writings about the hard life on the Denniston hills, a coal mining place on the rugged West Coast captured many readers' imagination. The first version of the Denniston Rose sold out before it hit the book shelves. Since then it has been republished at least eight times and became one of NZ most sold novels.

The new self-guided tour has been developed by the Denniston Heritage Trust supported by Department of Conservation and Jenny Pattrick. It will take visitors along 17 key locations from the Denniston Rose book and where the main book character Rose lived, Conn the Brake worked, Rose's school and where Bella is buried. It also covers major events in the book such as the historic mine strike and the great fire at the Bins.

Official opening of the trail with special guest Jenny Pattrick on 31st March 2012, 11am at Denniston. Jenny Pattrick will be introducing the tour, performing life readings and - weather permitting - take visitors to the locations of her novel- an event literature fans in the country should not miss.

The "Denniston Rose Literture Trail" will also become available for self-paced visitors in a printed brochure and an internet application free to download onto mobile devices.

Bookings for the launch of the literature walk can be done through Buller District Library. Participants are asked to organise their own transport to Denniston.
